The Maritime Museum is located at the old Guthrie warehouse
after it was extensively renovated by the Public Works Department. The building
is next to the replica of the Flora de La Mar that houses The Maritime Museum.
The Maritime Museum Phase II is a modern museum incorporating computer
technology and focuses on a variety of maritime themes such as maritime life,
exploration of the oceans and seas, treasures from the sea and others.
The Maritime Museum Phase II, open to the public on May 23
1998, was officially declared open by the Chairman of the State Committee for
Tourism, Culture and the Environment, Datuk Poh Ah Tiam.
The concept of this
museum is "Ocean and the Mankind". It depicts how human being
perceived and derived benefits from the seas.
The museum's display reflect the
concept in which the civilization and technological change flourish in line
with the development of the nation. There is also a section dedicated to the
marine life which lived in the ocean such as sea turtles, fish, sea shells and
other creatures.
