Malaysia took the first step into the heavy industry
especially in the manufacturing of commercial vehicles with the establishment
of HICOM (Heavy Industries Corporation of Malaysia) in 1980, and PROTON (the
National Automobile Industry) in 1983.
Subsequently in 1993, PERODUA (the second National
Automibile Industry) was formed and again in 1995, MODENAS (National
Motor-cycles and Engines) was established. The Malaysian Motor Industry has
since developed by leaps and bounds.
As an adjunct to the development of the
motor industry, the Chief Minister of Melaka, YAB Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam,
initiated the “Car Emporium” concept which was officially declared open on 2
January 2010.
Located in Melaka Autocity near MITC, the Transportation
Museum exhibits various types of vehicles including cars, motorcycles, bicycles
and other such means of transportation, each with its own antique and unique
features. Most of the vehicles being
displayed in the Transportation Museum are being placed here by the owners for
public appreciation. A total of more than 40 types of mode of transportation
are being exhibited here.
All the vehicle exhibits in the Transportation Museum are
still functional and some of them are even for sale (most of them have a board
at,detailing information such as the owner’s name, the car price and contact
number). Alternatively, you can also get the owner’s contact from the
management of the museum.
