The establishing of UMNO Museum in Melaka is a rational step
in the history of the Malays since everything significant within its scope
originated from there. The Melaka Empire is acknowledged throughout the world
as the catalyst and core of Malay civilization in Malaysia. It has been a model
for the past and present Malay state and society in the aspect of establishing
the system of the country, politics, economy, culture, literature and upholding
Islam as the system of belief and lifestyle of the Malays.
Melaka Umno Museum is located along Jalan Kota, in Bandar
Hilir, which is the museum belt of Malacca. The museum showcases historical
exhibits related to the founding and struggles. Among the items displayed are
old photographs, letters and other documents. The reason to site the museum in
Malacca is, among others, because Umno was founded in that state. Also, being
the brainchild of Malacca Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam, it is
part of the plan to build 21 museums in Malacca - certainly a plan that pushes
for quantity over quality.
Therefore, the building of the UMNO Museum is justified
because of the importance of Melaka as the catalyst in the development of our
country and upon it lies the glorious past of the political history of the
Malays and Malaysia.
The museum houses all the achievement records of UMNO in the politic of Melaka and country and also document the role of UMNO in upholding
the interest of the Malays and the development of Malaysia.
The museum enlighten today’s generation on the contribution
of UMNO as the backbone of the Perikatan and Barisan Nasional in the aspect of
the political leadership, administration and the development of Melaka and
Malaysia as well as to be the information centre of UMNO and Malaysian politics
for the general public and foreigners.
Besides that, the museum also become the medium to express
gratitude and respect to the leaders of Melaka UMNO and Malaysia who have
contributed tremendously for sake of religion, their countrymen and the nation
and to instill a sense of appreciation towards national history and religion in
order to encourage patriotism among Malaysians.
